Anthony Davis exploded with 42 points in 41 minutes, leading the Los Angeles Lakers to a big-time win over the Phoenix Suns, a team that is chasing the number one seed in the Western Conference.

For the reigning NBA champions, the win did not change their place in the standings as they remained within the play-in tournament zone (7th place in the West) but it kept their hopes of a Top-6 finish alive.

After the game, Lakers head coach Frank Vogel praised Davis for his performance. “You see Anthony just getting a little bit stronger every game, little bit more in rhythm every game. Just a sensational performance by Anthony tonight,” he said.

It was the second high-scoring game in a row for the 28-year-old forward. Prior to the Suns game, he had 36 points in a loss to the Trail Blazers.

“There was matchups in both [Blazers and Suns] games. They were a problem for our opponent,” Vogel said. “We wanted to make sure that we exploited that and we’re able to do that. We’re doing a better job of getting the ball inside when they’re trying to take him away.

“We had some games where we didn’t feed the post very well or played at double-teams. We’re getting better each game with that. AD was finding people and our guard were getting the ball to him in a position to score.”
