Ja Morant, the 2020 NBA Rookie of the Year, will have his story told in a docuseries set to release next month.

The Memphis Grizzlies star had a very special first season in the NBA, one eclipsing that of Zion Williamson. And, while rookies aren’t often the subjects of documentaries, he says he feels it was necessary to tell everyone how his first year in the NBA went by.

“It was important being my rookie season to tell how my first year was going and went,” he told USA TODAY.

The six-part series, called Promiseland, is set for release on Crackle on June 3. It’s created and directed by filmmaker Dexton Deboree and will feature his mom, Jamie; dad, Tee; grandma, Sandra Dawson; AAU coach, Bryan Brown; and Murray State coach Matt McMahon, as well as others.

“I wanted to get different voices to tell what we’ve been through, and what I’ve been through to get to this point,” Morant explained.
