The Los Angeles Lakers lost their second game in a row and remained in the fifth place in the Western Conference. Despite not dropping in the standings, the reigning NBA champions got closer to the seventh place which would put them in the Play-In Tournament.

Their advantage over the sixth-placed Dallas Mavericks and the seventh-placed Portland Trail Blazers is just one win. With nine regular season games left to play there is a real possibility that the Lakers could finish outside the top six teams in the West.

Anthony Davis was asked if he thought it is worth for his team to experiment with different lineups if that could result in losing games and putting the Lakers in the Play-In Tournament.

“Obviously, we don’t want to be in that situation,” Davis said. “You’re not going to have a lot of practice, especially this late in the season… Our practice is the games. Even though we don’t want to lose, we do want to take a step in the right direction every time we step on the floor, gain some momentum going into the playoffs.

“It really doesn’t matter where we are. We’re very confident in ourselves, we know what our team is capable of. We know that once we reach the playoffs it’s a different story. We’re still trying to get adjusted to each other. For the most part we’re using these games as our practice and still trying to figure each other out.”
