After winning a national championship for Syracuse in college, Memphis Grizzlies rookie Hakim Warrick was again on center stage during the 2006 NBA Slam Dunk Contest.

Warrick remembers his most memorable moment from the weekend actually not being a high flying dunk at the contest, instead saying it was an elevator run in with Kevin Garnett, Hakim’s idol growing up and the reason why he wore #21 during his pro career.

(Via The Scorer’s Table with Eric Devendorf):

“I remember my rookie year, I’m getting on the elevator and he was like, ‘My favorite Orangeman!’ He’s the reason why I wore #21, so that was love.”
