The New Orleans Pelicans are focusing on three teams – the Philadelphia 76ers, Brooklyn Nets and Boston Celtics – as potential trade destinations for JJ Redick, according to Shams Charania.

Redick’s family lives in Brooklyn and he “is believed to have a strong preference to return to the northeast area,” but no deal is imminent yet, Charania adds.

The 76ers, Nets and Celtics, who are all in the Atlantic Division in the Eastern Conference, are all championship contenders this season.

Redick, 34, has made the playoffs in every year of his NBA career except last season, his first season with the Pelicans.

The 15-year NBA veteran is on a $13.1 million contract that expires at the end of the season.

Redick is averaging 7.9 points per game and has been a “Did Not Play-Coach’s Decision” (DNP-CD) the last two games.

Second-year guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker has seen his playing time increase without Redick.

It was recently reported that the Pelicans were receiving trade calls on Redick and Lonzo Ball and they have shown openness to discussing trades around both players with interested teams.

The NBA has the following two important upcoming dates before the March 25 trade deadline:

  • Feb. 2: The last day a player can be traded and still be aggregated in a multi-player transaction at the March 25 trade deadline.
  • Feb. 6: Most players who signed free-agent contracts in the offseason can begin to be traded.
