Eight new players have tested positive for COVID-19 out of 541 in the latest round since Dec. 2, the NBA and NBPA announced.

That number is down from the league’s announcement last week that 48 out of 546 had tested positive.

Given that there won’t be a bubble for the upcoming season, positive cases are expected.

“Anyone who has returned a positive test during this initial phase of testing in their team’s market is isolated until they are cleared for leaving isolation under the rules established by the NBA and Players Association in accordance with CDC guidance,” according to the statement by the NBA and NBPA.

The league has sent multiple health and safety protocol manuals to teams and also warned of possible severe punishments for violating those COVID-19 protocols.
