Tony Parker made an interesting statement regarding his good friend and former teammate in the San Antonio Spurs, Tim Duncan.

Duncan did not think San Antonio could win the NBA title with a ‘Euro point guard’, like Parker, who joined the Spurs in the summer of 2001.

“The most important thing for me was showing Pop and Duncan that I deserved to be there. I was aware of Duncan’s doubts. When the Spurs drafted me, he said, ‘But why are we drafting a European point guard? We’ll never win a title with a European point guard’,” Parker wrote in his book “Beyond All of My Dreams”, per HoopsHype, via Eurohoops.net.

Duncan was already a superstar, being the NBA Finals MVP in 1999. Duncan and Parker won four titles together (2003, 2005, 2007, 2014).
