The Philadelphia 76ers are hiring longtime Indiana Pacers assistant coach Dan Burke, according to ESPN’s Tim Bontemps.

Burke will join former Memphis Grizzlies and Sacramento Kings coach Dave Joerger as an assistant coach on Doc Rivers’ staff.

Burke, 61, is widely regarded for his defensive tactics and techniques, notes Bontemps.

The Pacers ranked 15th in 2016-2017 (108.1), 12th in 2017-2018 (107.3), 3rd in 2018-2019 (106.0) and 6th in 2019-2020 (107.5) in defensive ratings.

Burke spent the last 19 seasons with the Pacers and also spent time as a video coordinator with the Portland Trail Blazers from 1988-1997.

Talking about the 76ers in an interview in 2019, Burke expressed that he “hates that team” and thought that Joel Embiid “gets away with a bunch of crap that the league ignores.”
