The Philadelphia 76ers are in advanced talks on a deal to hire Daryl Morey to oversee the franchise’s basketball operations, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

Morey will sign a five-year deal as soon as this weekend, according to Shams Charania.

Despite the hiring of Morey, Elton Brand is expected to remain in his current position as general manager.

Conversations between the 76ers and Morey began shortly after he stepped down as Houston Rockets general manager on Oct. 15.

Those conversations reportedly “escalated” in recent days, as Morey traveled to Philadelphia to meet with ownership, Wojnarowski adds.

New 76ers head coach Doc Rivers and Morey have a strong relationship and history together dating back to the time they spent with the Boston Celtics.

Morey has previously been on the 76ers radar, as he turned down the opportunity to run the team two years ago before signing an extension with the Rockets.

A formal announcement about Morey’s hiring is expected later this week.
