DeMar DeRozan is unhappy in San Antonio, according to an article in The Athletic by Ben Standig and Mike Vorkunov.

DeRozan might be interested in joining forces with Dwane Casey in Detroit the report suggests. The Spurs’ superstar could become an unrestricted free agent this summer if he opts in the $27.7 million player option.

The Spurs missed the playoffs for the first time in 23 years, despite DeRozan having a good season in Black and Silver. The Compton native averaged 22 points, 5.6 assists and 5.5 rebounds in 68 games with the Spurs this season.

The Athletic piece makes the connection between the Pistons’ head coach Dwane Casey and the Toronto Raptors guard Fred VanVleet, who is going to be an unrestricted free agent in the offseason.

(via SB Nation):

“DeMar DeRozan doesn’t like San Antonio and doesn’t want to be there. If those guys leave, they land with Dwane Casey in Detroit. That relationship with former coach is strong. Comes down to money (for Fred VanVleet) and the situation in Toronto is rough with the taxes. VanVleet on the Pistons elevates his status as the number 1-2 guy on the team.”
