The Houston Rockets will interview ESPN analyst Jeff Van Gundy on Oct. 14 for their head coaching vacancy, according to Marc Stein of The New York Times.

Van Gundy, 58, was expected to meet with the team this week after Tyronn Lue interviewed for the job on Oct. 12.

He has a career coaching record of 430-318, going 248-172 with the New York Knicks from 1996-2001 and 182-146 with the Rockets from 2003-2007.

Van Gundy’s most recent coaching experience came when he led a USA Basketball team made up of G League players for the 2019 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers.

There has been speculation that Van Gundy is the frontrunner for the Rockets’ job, but Lue’s candidacy has reportedly gathered significant momentum after his meeting with the team, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

John Lucas is also expected to interview for the Rockets’ job after Van Gundy, notes Stein.
