DeMar DeRozan will possibly pick up his $27 million player option for the next season, as it’s unlikely to find a contract like that in free agency.

According to CNBC’s Jabari Young, the Spurs could work out a deal package to trade DeRozan with a report suggesting that the Miami Heat may be interested in acquiring him.

“On the DeRozan front, he’ll likely decide to pick up his option. The Spurs could build around him, using the team’s bubble play as a roster model or trade him, too, should he opt out.

DeRozan is close with Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler, and one agent forecast a possible Spurs-Heat package.”

The Spurs may have to make the decision to go young, after the end of the 22-year streak of consecutive appearances in the postseason under Gregg Popovich during the 2019-2020 shortened season.

Their roster has some possible rebuilding blocks in place, especially in the perimeter with Lonnie Walker, Dejounte Murray and Derrick White.

On the other hand, the Heat will try to surround Jimmy Butler with talent in order to compete for a title the next four seasons.
