Sports analyst Skip Bayless thinks that benching Zion Williamson for the final 7 minutes cost the New Orleans Pelicans a game against the Utah Jazz. According to him, Zion is the Pels’ closer but is too heavy to be able to play significant minutes. Bayless ripped all the talks about how the rookie sensation got in shape during the lockdown.

“The New Orleans Pelicans lost this game because Zion Williamson sat on the bench for the last 7 minutes and 19 seconds. He is this team’s closer. He’s not afraid of the brightest light. He had made 6-of-8 shots. He made 4 or 5 shots where I said “Really? For a man that big to have that kind of touch, that kind of feel of off the glass,” Bayless said on UNDISPUTED.

“He’s just too heavy. They sold this all through pandemic ‘he’s working out, he’s getting in shape,’ we’d see pictures, we’d see this… they would just glow about how committed he is to his new nutrition and weight lifting and bla bla bla… And it’s all phoney baloney because he’s been eating too much baloney.”

The number one pick of the 2019 NBA Draft managed to score 13 points and dish 1 assists in just 15 minutes of play in the season re-opener for New Orleans.
