Steve Kerr is always being vocal against social and political issues, especially after becoming an NBA head coach.

The Warriors’ coach talks with David Aldridge of The Athletic about the time he realized he should use his position in the NBA to speak out against several political and social issues.

“I think after the Finals in 2016 was the first time I ever really spoke up about a political issue, and that was gun violence,” said Kerr, per David Aldridge of The Athletic.

Kerr is pretty outspoken on the gun violence matter, as his father was murdered in Beirut, on what was deemed as a political murder.

Kerr has admitted he was fed up with the situation noting that he was his duty to become more outspoken on social issues.

“The reason I spoke up was, I think it was the Finals – maybe it was the conference finals in ’16 – we had a moment of silence for the Pulse nightclub victims,” Kerr said. “And I remember standing there during the national anthem, trying to count the number of moments of silence we’ve had. And these moments are powerful. But we never did anything about it. Nobody ever did anything about it on a governmental level. And so, I finally was fed up.”

Kerr continued to criticize the governmental shortcomings of the current administration, while he made valued points talking about the “Black Lives Matter” movement, in the wake of George Floyd’s killing in Minnesota.
