LaVar Ball is one of the most outspoken personalities in basketball world. Recently he shared an opinion why the current Portland Trail Blazers can never win a championship.

It is due to their contracts structure. Namely, Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum who have long-term contracts with the Blazers that combined exceed $300 million. This leaves little room in salary cap for Portland to get quality players next to them. Lillard is guaranteed to earn $257,429,274 through 2025, while for McCollum it’s $156,911,111 through 2024, per Basketball Reference.

“Look at the Portland Trail Blazers. You got three hundred million tied in two guards. You ain’t never gonna win nothing,” LaVar told Kazeem Famuyide on Say Less with Kaz. “When you tie up all the money in two players it ain’t gonna happen like that.”

He came to this point while talking about all three of his sons potentially joining the Knicks in future and sacrificing their contracts in order to win championships. Ball also mentioned Scottie Pippen’s way under-valued contract with the Bulls as another example.
