Enes Kanter announced that his father has been released after 7 years in Turkish prison. The Boston Celtics’ center posted the news in his social media.

Kanter’s father, Mehmet was initially sentenced to 15 years in prison for allegedly supporting Fethullah Gulen, who was accused of leading a coup to overthrow Turkish President Recap Tayyip Erdogan in 2016.

Furthermore, the Turkish president has revoked the NBA’s center passport and banned him from returning to Turkey.

The Turkish player believes that the spotlight his father’s case came into put pressure in his country’s government to release Mehmet Kanter.
