Los Angeles Clippers head coach Doc Rivers thinks that in order for his team to win a championship this season it must go through the city rivals Lakers. The same goes for the Purple & Gold, who have the Clippers in their way to the title.

“For us to get to where we want to get to, we have to go through them, and probably the same way for them – they have to go through us,” Rivers said to David Aldridge of The Athletic, per Farbod Esnaashari of Sports Illustrated. “As a group, we’re good with that, and I think they’re good with that.”

Rivers’ team is 2-1 against the Lakers so far this season. The last encounter, just before the NBA shutdown, was won by the Lakers 112-103. All three games between the two LA sides were tightly contested and ended with no more than a 10-point differential.

The Clippers are behind the Lakers in the Western Conference, as the two teams occupy the top two spots in the standings.
