Barcelona’s Erazem Lorbek has had a season plagued with injury; he has been a shadow of what he once was as well. But the Slovenian forward is satisfied with his on court productivity overall as he aims for a second Euroleague title, starting tonight against Real Madrid.

Lorbek has gone from averaging 13 points a game in the 2011-12 season and amassing a total of 272 points to a mere 137 points this season. The 30-year-old did miss a chunk of the regular season due to knee surgery, but since his return to the Barca line-up, his efficiency has no doubt gone down drastically.

“I’m satisfied, I’m satisfied with my performance,” Lorbek said. “I just want to keep my regularity going, game in and game out. Do the same things to help the team win.

“It’s been a tough year, but I am part of a great organisation and I felt that the summer away from the Slovenian national team was a very, very hard choice as it was back home, but it was the right one for me and my career.”

The forward has been no real stranger to injuries, but this time his slow recovery from knee surgery seems to have slowed him down. He lacks the deceptively quick footwork that he used to own defenders with two-and-three years ago; the mid-range jumper is inconsistent and in some spots, Lorbek has struggled to keep up with the pace, especially coming up against players a mere two years younger than him.

Even with the pre-season arrivals of Maciej Lampe, Joey Dorsey, the emergence of youngster Alex Abrines and of course Euroleague First Team selection Ante Tomic, coach Xavi Pascual has kept his faith in Lorbek – giving the Slovene roughly 23 minutes a contest, but with a 15-point, 2 rebound stat, Lorbek’s best game, efficiency-wise, the 2013-14, individually this will be a season to forget.

Lorbek’s presence within the players camp though is one that the players benefit from greatly.

“He’s a fantastic player and has a veteran head on him so he’s a good team-mate to have,” Dorsey said. “[Lorbek] has had a tough year, injury wise, but his passion for Barcelona, his passion for the game is huge and he is one of our great players.”

Despite an individual season where the numbers have gone down, Lorbek has a chance to win a second Euroleague title with the Catalan giants.  Something that even he would admit that.

“We feel good right now,” Lorbek said. “We’ve won the last couple of games, we wanted to come with more confidence to this Final Four. We know it will not be easy as Real Madrid is a very good team and we have to play our best if we want to win the first match.”

Lorbek hit 6 points in last week’s 86-75 win over Real Madrid, and even though the Slovenian veteran would like that to be a mental advantage, he admits that Friday’s opponents are too good to remember about previous meetings.

“It would be nice if our win on Saturday had them thinking,” Lorbek jokes. “Most of the Madrid players have been around though. They know about this kind of occasion and they will be ready for us. We will be ready for them though.”
