Well known Slovenian singer Zoran Predin has been banned from attending any future basketball games in the Euroleague following an attack on the match officials straight after Union Olimpija’s 87-83 loss in the Eurocup to Budivielnik Kiev on February 19.

The Euroleague’s independent disciplinary judge has also fined Union Olimpija head coach Ales Pipan €3,000 and ordered the club to play three future Eurocup matches behind closed doors and pay a separate fine of €25,000.

The incident occurred shortly after the final buzzer of Union Olimpija’s loss to Budivielnik Kiev when Predin hit a match official because of a no-call in the dying seconds that saw an attempted three-pointer from Sasu Salin hit Budivielnik’s Janis Strelnieks’ own foot. As a result, the Ukrainian side were able to seal the win, leaving coach Pipan and Predin unhappy with what happened.

Objects were thrown by furious Union Olimpija supporters towards the match officials who were forced to run to their dressing rooms.

Predin, best known in the basketball world for writing and performing the official theme song for last summer’s Eurobasket in Slovenia has since apologised for his actions and, in a press release stated that he will not attend a Union Olimpija basketball match.
