Together with the Chicago Bulls they have won three titles, among other things consecutively. A very solid relationship between the current Golden State Warriors manager, Steve Kerr, and Michael Jordan. A fortified relationship with the passing of the years, but which, at its first glares, was not exactly idyllic.

To find out what happened, we have to jump back in time, returning to the training camp prior to the 1995/1996 season. MJ had recently returned to the NBA world after his brief experience in Minor League Baseball and, as was to be expected, he fought aggressively and stubbornly from day one to impose his leadership status again.

MJ’s vehement spirit collided with Kerr, so much so that the two set up a violent fistfight from which coach Steve came out with a black eye. The episode, however, contrary to what one might think, did not divide the two former teammates, but united them to build an excellent relationship.

Steve Kerr went back to talking about what happened with MJ:

“Today I would say that that punch helped our relationship, even if this can sound really strange! However, I wouldn’t really recommend it to anyone. Personally, in that case, I think Michael wanted to test me and I replied. It is as if I have passed the test and, from there Michael has had more and more trust in me.”
