Veteran guard Sarunas Jasikevicius has signed for his hometown club Zalgiris Kaunas for the upcoming Euroleague season.

The 37-year-old joins from Barcelona on, what is thought to be a one-year deal. Jasikevicius, originally from Kaunas moved to the USA to further his basketball career, but never returned to the city since, despite stints with Panathinaikos, Maccabi, Union Olimpija Ljubljana and more recently, Barcelona, where he reached his sixth Final Four with overall last season.

For Jasikevicius, this is a realisation of a dream.

“I always had a dream of playing for Zalgiris,” Jasikevicius said.

“While my career was going on, I almost lost the hope to play for my hometown team, but finally life has put everything in the right places and I am happy to be in Kaunas. My childhood dream has come true.”

The veteran is one of the Euroleague’s most recognisable names with four continental cups, two all-Euroleague first team selections and a Final Four MVP award.

Zalgiris will be in Group B of the Euroleague regular season, alongside Real Madrid, Anadolu Efes, Brose Baskets, EA7 Milano and Strasbourg.
