According to well-informed Chinese sources, Panagiotis Giannakis will be the new head coach of the Chinese National Team.
There were several names of mainly European coaches rumoured for the Chinese selector job, but Kestutis Kemzura, Neve Spahija and Zouros, amongst others, were ruled out for various reasons and it was Panagiotis Giannakis who won the race.
Giannakis is currently trying to revive his coaching career in Limoges in France. The former Greek National Team coach has tied his name to the biggest successes of the Blue and White NT, having won the Eurobasket 1987 and 2005 as a player and as a coach respetively, while he clinched the silver medal in 2006 Japan World Championship.
The Greek coach will travel to China to finalise the deal and sign his contract as soon as his season with Limoges in France is over, presumable within weeks, as his team is rather unlikely to make the playoffs.
