Yet another basketball event was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Tokyo 2020 Olympic Basketball tournament draw which was scheduled to take place at the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball in Mies, Switzerland, on March 20, has been postponed to a date yet to be confirmed.

Despite reports that the 2020 Olympic Games will be cancelled, the organizers maintain that the games will take place as originally intended and the athletes are told to carry on their preparations.

Furthermore, if the NBA season is resumed, it could take place during the summer which would coincide with the Olympic Basketball Tournament scheduled to be held between July 25 and August 9.

Japan, Nigeria, Argentina, United States, Iran, France, Spain and Australia are already qualified for the Men’s tournament.

Twenty four more teams are to battle for the 4 remaining spots in four FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournaments that will take place from 23 to 28 June in four cities: Victoria (Canada), Split (Croatia), Kaunas (Lithuania) and Belgrade (Serbia).

Meanwhile Japan, United States, Belgium, Canada, Australia, France, Puerto Rico, Nigeria, Serbia, China, South Korea and Spain will take part in the Women’s tournament.
