Boston Celtics’ guard Rajon Rondo will miss the rest of the NBA season with a torn ACL.

The news of Rondo’s injury, which he sustained on Friday at Atlanta, was broken during the half-time break of Boston’s 100-98 double-overtime victory over the Miami Heat on Sunday.

The players were unaware of the news until the end of the game but ESPN’s Doris Burke informed the audience watching that the coaching staff knew about Rondo’s season-ending injury.

The Celtics’ team spokesperson Brian Olive said that surgery hasn’t been scheduled yet.

Rondo had been averaging 13.7 points, 11.1 assists, and 5.6 rebounds in 38 games this season before Friday’s game at Atlanta. Courtney Lee started in place of Rondo in the win against Miami and it’s likely he’ll be in the starting line-up unless Boston makes changes to the team in time for the Playoffs.
