On March 5, it was reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic that the Los Angeles Lakers and free-agent guard Dion Waiters had agreed on a deal for the remainder of the season.

Charania added that conversations between the two parties had been positive. But the Lakers do reserve the option to release Waiters if it doesn’t work out.

Interestingly, a short time after the news broke, Charania did a further report via video. More details were publicised, as well as the following:

“The Lakers are still holding out the option of potentially adding a shooter down the line. They worked out JR Smith as well on Monday.”

It appears that the Lakers may not be done yet and maybe holding out for another shooter. It is assumed that it may come at the expense of Quinn Cook or Jared Dudley if this was to occur.

JR Smith was worked out on the same day that the Lakers worked out Dion Waiters, so he could be an option. Other free-agent shooters include; Allen Crabbe and Jamal Crawford.
