Another week gone by in the Greek League, with Olympiacos still topping the standings, but with both Panionios and Kolossos staying perfect as well.
Let’s start our weekly wander of Greece from Rhodes island, where the local team earned their third win (78-71 over Panelefsiniakos) in three games thanks to a great display by Laron Dendy, who contributed 20 points and 8 rebounds.
Going to mainland now, Aris secured their first win of the season in a thriller, beating Ilysiakos at home 64-63. We had written last week that their coach was under notice, and indeed he got fired midweek. Vangelis Aggelou, the team’s new coach (and Ivkovic asistant last season) took voer and is already fixing some things. The team is also expected to sign Tsiaras during the upcoming days.
Moving a bith to the north, where the local team of Kavala couldn’t stop Panionios from maintaining their perfect record, losing 84-87. It’s worth noting the best display of the week by Nikos Pappas who scored 32 points, playing one of the best games of his career. The young star seems to have put past troubles behind him and could develop into an important player for Greece National Team, if he keeps it up.
Back in Athens, Peristeri took advantage of their home ground again, this time edging Apollon Patras 76-74. Another youngster, Andreas Kanonidis played a terrific team scoring 18 points and grabbing 9 rebounds.
In Drama, the local team got their second win of the season, overcoming PAOK, despite the visitors had Lazaros Papadopoulos in a good day, having scored 31 points. Kevin Palmer was the go-to-guy of the home side helping them to a 89-78 win putting up a doble-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Returning to Athens, Olympiacos steamrolled past Ikaros, humiliating them 53-97. The fourty four points difference talks for itself. All, but Katsivelis, of Olympiacos players put their names into the scoring list as the team shook off the Zalgiris shocker.
In the last game of the round on Monday, Panathinaikos also claimed a blowout win against Rethmyno, 92-50. Four players had 11 points and even Armstrong played a semi-decent game. Of course such games are no grounds for serious conclusions for both the Greek giants.
