Argentina started their Olympic Qualifying campaign with a 54-51 win over New Zealand in Ankara in today’s second game.

The best player for the winners  was Erica Sanches with 22 points and 6 rebounds. Agostina Burani was the best rebounder with ten, with the most vital board in the last second of the game.

Natalie Taylor’s excellent performance with 19 points, six rebounds and 3 from 6 shooting from three-point land, unfortunately it didn’t help her team to win.

In the closing stages of the first half Sanches and Taylor were both tied shooting from distance. Sanches hit two vital triples in her 8 points. Argentina team showed their fighting spirit and finished first half with four points advantage.

They opened second half with a 5-0 burst for their biggest lead of nine points. The New Zealanders were trying to tie till the end of the game but just came to 49-51 two minutes before the end.

The New Zealand team finished tournament with their second loss while Argentina will compete against Czech Republic for the first position in Group tomorrow at 14.30 (local time).
