The Chinese Basketball Association has indefinitely postponed its season due to the ongoing coronavirus epidemic.
All team practices have also been canceled as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of the virus.
The season could continue in March, but it could also be completely canceled, as there’s no final decision yet.
There are currently around 40 American-born players in the CBA, as teams have sent the American players and their families back home, according to Jonathan Givony.
A handful of American players are still in China, however, as they fear that leaving would jeopardize their lucrative and sometimes non-guaranteed contracts.
The U.S. State Department has advised citizens to “reconsider travel” to China.
The Guangdong Southern Tigers, defending champions of the CBA, have donated two million yuan, or about $285,000, to those fighting the coronavirus in Wuhan, the epicenter of the outbreak.
