The 2011 edition of the Citta di Roma Tournament saw a new champion celebrate as KK Zagreb CO beat Fenerbahce-Ulker 62-52 in the final of the tournament on Thursday night in Rome, Italy.

The trophy isn’t the only thing Zagreb won but also the first ticket to the 2012 Nike International Junior Tournament that will take place during the Turkish Airlines Euroleague Final Four for the 10th year in a row.

FB-Ulker, the champs of 2012 in Rome, will settle for the second place.

Dario Saric, champion and MVP of the 2010 NIJT, reached the same stage in Rome as well winning another title and MVP award. He tailed 19.8 points, 14.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.5 steals in four games to reach an index rating of 30.5 for the entire tournament.

On the All-Tournament team are Saric’s teammate in Zagreb guard Dominik Mavra who finished the tournament with 21.0 points, 50% from three point land on 3 made shots per game, 5.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and an index rating of 20.0. His 32 points on 75% shooting in the game that decided the winner of Group B was his best performance on the tournament.

FB-Ulker’s tall guard James Birsen led his team to the final and finished the games with 13.8 points and 8.5 rebounds. Virtus Siena’s forward-center Amedeo Tessitori collected 21.3 points and 12.8 rebounds and an index rating of 27.0 that helped his team finish third.

Dnipro’s Vladyslav Smyrnov scored over 20 points in three games and finished the games with 18.8 points on 52.9% from the perimeter and 4.8 rebounds.

Gran Canaria’s Tridon Makonda played only three games but wrote 13 points and 3.7 rebounds to complete the All-Tournament team.

Earlier on Day 3 Virtus Siena beat the hosting club Stella Azzurra 83-78 to win the third place, Gran Canaria 2014 upset Maccabi Teddy Tel Aviv 60-53 for the fifth spot and Dnipro beat Acea Virtus Roma 71-65 to finish seventh.
