Spain made it two wins out of two with an 87-73 win over Iberian neighbours Portugal in Panevezys.

The Eurobasket holders never looked in trouble, despite a spirited display from Portugal. Spain always looked comfortable.

Pau Gasol led all scorers with 20 points on 8/9 shooting with Juan Carlos Navarro chipping in with 17.

After their near-blunder against Poland, Spain were in no mood to let that happen, as they quickly established a 10 point lead after the first quarter.

Portugal though to their credit hung in there, but the gulf in class was there for all to see as Pau hit 10 of his 20 points in the second quarter to kill off a Portuguese fight back. Spain led 53-36 at the interval.

Spain coach Sergio Scariolo rested his starters after his side started the third quarter as they ended the second. Holding Portugal to eight points in five minutes as the holders march on towards qualification to Vilnius.

Antonio Tavares led Portugal with 17 points.
