In a rather bold move the Greek Basketball Federation have decided to punish Loukas Mavrokefalides with a two-months ban from any competition.

The player, who cited personal problems, had declined an invitation to join the Greece NT earlier in the summer. This was the second summer in a row the player refused to play for Greece and apparently the Federation decided to use him as an example for future cases.

Some weeks ago the Federation had decided that Mavrokefalides would never get called to the National Team again but yesterday they went even further by banning him for two months from any playing activity.

The ban covers all competitions, including Spartak’s domestic and Eurocup games. The decision was based on FIBA rules (regarding players who refuse National Team invitation while not injured) and the Greek Basketball Federation has also faxed their decision to FIBA, Russian Basketball Federation and Spartak St. Petersburg.

The ban will start on the day of the first season game of Spartak and will end two months later.
