Spanish international Rudy Fernandez could become the best-paid player in ACB if he decides to accept the offer of Real Madrid.

The club was spending large amounts of money to sign the players wanted by former coach Ettore Messina but received little in terms of titles.

Despite the decision to reduce team budget for the coming season, the club’s president Florentino Perez is willing to spend 18 million euros over six years in order to bring Rudy Fernandez to his club, that is €3M per season.

El Mundo Deportivo reports that Perez wants Fernandez to become the key player of Real Madrid for the coming six years.

Fernandez was traded to NBA champions Dallas Mavericks after three years in Portland Trail Blazers. The role that he will get in his new team is still unclear.

Moreover, Fernandez would only earn $2.2M (€1.5M) next season which is only half of what he would receive in Madrid. Even an increased wage for the 2012-2013 season in NBA would still be lower ($3.2M (€2.2M)) than the offer that Fernandez has to decide whether to accept it or not.

Looking further in the future, the contract that Fernandez might be offered in the NBA depends on his performances while Madrid offers an unusually long contract for a European team and a guaranteed salary for the next six years.

Rudy Fernandez averaged 8.5 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game last season for the Portland Trail Blazers.
