Sammy Mejia of Cholet Basket became a hot name on the transfer market after his debut Euroleague season. Dominican shooting guard who also holds American passport was close to joining Unicaja until big player stepped in.

Reports in Spain, namely unicaja.diariosur.es, claim that the player has agreed terms with Unicaja Malaga and was close to finalise the move. However, late interest in Mejia’s services by Maccabi and CSKA Moscow stalled the process.

The offer presented by CSKA Moscow is significantly better than the one Unicaja and therefore the player decided not sign the offer received from the Spanish club just yet.

Meanwhile Maccabi is looking for a replacement for Chuck Eidson who left the Yellows and has reportedly agreed terms with Barcelona.

28-year-old guard was one of Euroleague’s discoveries this season. Cholet Basket was close to reaching Top 16 and Mejia was a large part of the team’s success.

Mejia averaged 15.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.1 steals per game during 32 minutes of play. His scoring was higher in French league – 18 points per game.
