ImageIn a few years time, the 2009 Eurobasket might be reflected on as a tournament that started a new era. The last years had been marked by rather consistent results: There was Spain, there was Greece, there was Lithuania. There was a talented Slovenian team that was never able to get it done.

On the intercontinential stage, there was USA and the great Argentinian core, which formed arguably one of the best national teams ever. Now the Diamantidis’, Parkers, Kirilenkos, Smodis’, Papaloukas’, Ginobilis, Obertos, Nocionis, Gasols, Nowitzkis, Jasikevicius and Siskauskas’ are aging, and with USA being the only country that can count on a huge pool of young talented basketball players that will guarantee elite level at all times, one must wonder who will fill the big footsteps in our European basketball countries.
