France have shocked Spain (and the entire basketball world) by downing the mighty World (and European) Champions Spain, rather easily and in great fashion!
The young and athletic French team surprised world-wide pundits with this win, as they performed on the higher standards after the first quarter, which ended 18-9 to Spain, and from then on never let the Spaniards even think about winning the opening game for both teams.
For the history the final score was 72-66 to France. This loss might say a lot about Spain, as they are probably missing their two best and most experienced players, both NBA stars Paul Gasola and Jose Calderon. On the other hand it could mean nothing as Spain lost to Serbia in the opening game of Eurobasket 2009 and went on to win the tournament by trashing the same team.
Nevertheless all the credit must go the French team and their youngsters for showing real passion, freshness, determination and world-class defence at some points of the game.
