In an interview to the Greek sports website www.sport24.gr Kostas Tsartsaris confirmed the rumours that he will miss Eurobasket 2009 in Poland, next September. According to Tsartsaris the main reason were his continuous injuries, minor and major, while the mental hurdle of playing basketball in the highest level throughout the entire year since 2003 was just too hard to overcome.
It is not yet clear whether this will be just a short break from the Greece National Team for Kostas Tsartsaris or a permanent retirement from the International basketball. He is not the first player from the 'Golden' team of Greece who have won the Eurobasket 2005 and were World Championship runner up in 2006 to retire from the National Team. The same happened to Michalis Kakiouzis, Lazaros Papadopoulos and Dimos Dikoudis. It would also not be a surprise if more players followed Tsartsaris' example.
