LithuaniaJust when it seemed that the hopes of collecting 500K euros to bid for a wild card to World Championship 2010 in Turkey are lost, Lithuanian Basketball Federation (LKF) found a sponsor which will pay the money needed in exchange for advertising. The deal should be signed in the coming days and until then LKF decided not to release the name of the sponsor to the public.

This puts Lithuania as a hot favourite to grab one of probably two wild cards that will be given to European teams since none of the other contenders have such a rich history in basketball. The other European teams considered favourites for the wild cards are Russia, Germany and Great Britain.

The money must be paid to FIBA until December 10. FIBA will announce the teams that will get the wild cards on December 12 in Istambul, Turkey.

Recently a group of the most loyal Lithuanian basketball fans, including the famous Tomas Balaisis (Sekla), sent a letter to FIBA pleading for the wild card to be given to Lithuania.
