James Augustine made a statement and said he remains an active player and has not decided to retire yet.

The American power forward/center spoke with the Spanish media Movistar and stated he has made the decision to retire.

However, Augustine mentioned that his comment was “misinterpreted” and he has no plans to retire whatsoever. As a matter of fact, he is looking forward to returning to action soon.

Here is what the 34-year-old player said:
“With regards to my statements on TV during the break of the Valencia-Madrid match last Sunday, I would like to clarify a few points:

1.- I have not made any decision to retire.
2.- When I do decide to retire, I want to give respect to the sport of basketball, my fans, colleagues, coaches, ex-teammates, and everyone who has supported me throughout my career.  That is something that is very important to me.
3.- I am currently taking a few weeks with my family and training on my own.  I remain in great shape and ready to play. I have evaluated several offers during the summer, but I am still waiting for the best option for both me and my family.
4.- I regret not having been able to properly express my thoughts in Spanish in the clearest way, and I apologize if my words were misinterpreted.  I want to clarify that does not fit what I feel at this moment, and I am ready and looking forward to playing basketball.

JAMES AUGUSTINE”
