The Detroit Pistons (3-0) defeated the Philadelphia 76ers (2-2) in overtime at home (133-132). This game showed why the Pistons’ power forward, Blake Griffin, is an MVP candidate.
The 29-year-old player posted both a game-high and a career-high 50 points, on shooting 20-of-35 from the floor, including 5-of-10 from three. He also grabbed 14 boards and made 6 assists. With 1.8 seconds left in overtime Griffin scored a lay-up and was fouled by Robert Covington. Then he made the ensuing free throw and set the Pistons’ victory.
Blake Griffin has become the sixth Pistons’ player with 50 or more points. The last Detroit’s player, who scored 50 or more, was Richard Hamilton. In 2006, he poured 51 points. Reggie Jackson contributed 23 points, Ish Smith came off the bench to score 21 points.
On the other hand, Joel Embiid led the way with 33 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists, J. J. Redick added 30 points. Ben Simmons missed the game due to back injury.
