It is extremely rare for an MVP to come from the losing side, but following the VTB League championship game, there was heavy thoughts that Khimki’s Alexey Shved might be part of that elite but rare group of losing MVP’s.

But CSKA Moscow’s Sergio Rodriguez claimed the Final Four MVP award after the Muscovites’ 95-84 win over Khimki in the final.

The Spaniard finished with 16 points and eight assists as CSKA won their seventh straight VTB League crown.

CSKA Moscow claimed their seventh straight VTB League title over the weekend.

But it was Shved, despite being on the losing side who came away by far with the biggest numbers of the Final Four.

Shved ended with a game-high 21 points in the final to back up his explosive 36-point haul in the semi-finals against UNICS Kazan.

He also ended with six rebounds and five assists in the semi-final win followed by nine assists in the title game but Rodriguez took the award, supposedly because he was on the winning team.

One person took offence to the news – and that was Alexey’s wife Nastya. And she let everyone know her outrage by holding a “Shved MVP” banner as often as she could.

Despite the injustice. both sides will be in the EuroLeague next season.
