Spain’s Pau Gasol believes that his side have what it takes to retain their Eurobasket title this summer.
The Eurobasket 2015 MVP was present during the unveiling of the Spanish national team today and given their impressive track record at recent Eurobasket events, winning three of the last four tournaments, Gasol says that it is gold or bust for the Olympic bronze-medalists.
“Spain has the quality to fight for the championship,” said Gasol.
“The goal is to start working and prepare as we do every year. The tournament takes you where you deserve. We have enough quality to qualify for the final phase and fight for the championship title. We have great ambition.”
The meet and greet session also reunited Pau with his brother Marc, who missed the last Eurobasket and also the Rio Olympics, last summer due to injury.
“Being on the team with my brother is an incentive,” Pau said.
“So I’m happy to be here with him, with Juan Carlos Navarro again and with the new players. The new blood, the spark that can help us.”
Spain will travel to Cluj, Romania where they face off against Croatia, Montenegro, Czech Republic, Hungary as well as the co-hosts in Group C.
