With Barcelona having the weekend off, it gave Real Madrid an opportunity to create some breathing room between them, their el’ Clasico rivals and the other teams in the Liga Endesa.

One of those teams being Valencia, whom Real defeated 80-71 in a hard-fought encounter in the Spanish capital.

Rudy Fernandez led the winners with 14 points as they improved their record at the top of the table to 14-3.

Tenerife now occupy second spot in the table but they needed a three-pointer with 40 seconds left by Rodrigo San Miguel plus tough, on-ball defence to beat Rio Monbus on the road 82-81.

San Miguel led the winners with 18 points in the win.

Baskonia also scored a win this weekend as they comfortably saw-off UCAM Murcia 92-71. Andrea Bargnani led the way with 17 points for the Vitoria side.
