Newcastle Eagles continued the defence of their BBL Cup title on Friday with a 95-84 victory over Cheshire Phoenix in the quarter-finals.

Earl Brown poured in 42 points in vain for Cheshire as the Eagles were led to the win by Orlan Jackman’s 26-point haul on 9-10 shooting, while Darius Defoe added 18 points and 10 rebounds.

“We are very happy to have advanced to the Semi-Finals,” declared Jackman. “It was a good win for us and the hard work only gets more intense from here.”

Surrey Scorchers joined Newcastle in the semi-finals after they recorded an impressive 94-75 victory over Worcester Wolves, on Sunday.

Tayo Ogedengbe led the way with 25 points in the win with Quincy Taylor adding 18 points and seven assists, while Chaz Rollins had 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Meanwhile, London Lions picked up two convincing league wins to improve to 7-1 in the BBL Championship.

Nigel Lloyd’s side eased past Surrey Scorchers 103-73 on Wednesday evening before producing a late surge to defeat Plymouth Raiders 84-64 on the road. Rashad Hassan top scored with 25 points with Zaire Taylor contributing a further 23 points to help keep pressure on unbeaten leaders, Leicester Riders.

The Riders made it nine wins from nine on Saturday after claiming an 85-60 victory away at Bristol Flyers as Drew Sullivan top scored with 16 points with five players hitting double figures for the visitors.

Also, Glasgow Rocks continued their winning run with a hard-fought 71-65 success over Leeds Force on Friday night. Hayden Lescault finished with a game-high 17 points.
