The long expected decision regarding the Olympiacos vs Macijauskas court battle is out and it is good news only for Olympiacos at Greek Sports Court ruled in favour of the Greek club.

Olympiacos had applied to the court last year in order to cancel Macijauskas’ (big money and time wise) contract because as the club claimed he breached one of the agreements of the contract when he injured himself during a non-club event. (He injured himself training with a Lithuanian club, without permission).

The official announcement regarding the case reads as following:

“The Appeal Court of Professional Basketball Players has ruled out with its unanimous (5-0 votes) decision #25/2009 that Olympiacos had valid grounds for canceling Arvydas Macijauskas contract as of September 1st, 2008 due to the athlete’s serious negligence which resulted in his serious injury in August 18th, 2008 in a non-club event.”

Olympiacos’ official website states about the decision:

“Olympiacos Basketball Club considers the exhaustive rationale of the decision as a full acknowledgement of the club’s standpoints regarding this issue.

Olympiacos Basketbal Club wishes to the individual Arvydas Macijauskas best of luck in any of his future professional activities.”

Thanks to the court decision Olympiacos will now save up to 4.4 million euros as the player had a contract until summer 2010 with a salary of 2.2 million euros per year.
