After six years at the helm, the Brazilian national side and Ruben Magnano have officially parted ways.

It comes after Magnano failed to steer Brazil, the Olympic host nation past the group stages of the Rio Games.

The 61-year-old took over the reigns of the Brazilian side in January 2010. His first tournament with Brazil ended with them losing in the second round of the FIBA world championships [now-World Cup] to neighbours Argentina.

Before he became the head coach with Brazil, Magnano had a successful stint as head coach of Argentina; his country of birth. He won the silver medal at the 2002 world championships and he helped the Argentinians capture the gold at the Athens Olympics in 2004.
