Austin Reaves has signed a new four-year, $180 million contract to remain with the Los Angeles Lakers, with the agreement including a player option for the final season.
According to reports, Reaves originally agreed to a four-year, $185 million deal but chose to take $5 million less in order to give the Lakers greater financial flexibility moving forward.
Los Angeles was in a unique position to offer Reaves a five-year contract worth as much as $241 million, significantly more than the four-year, $179 million maximum any other NBA team could have offered.
ESPN’s Bobby Marks reported that the deal starts at the maximum allowable first-year salary of $41.2 million, while the second season includes only a four percent raise.
The NBA salary cap is currently projected to increase by 5.5 percent for the 2027-28 season.
Reaves, represented by agents Aaron Reilly and Reggie Berry, previously signed a four-year, $54 million contract with the Lakers in 2023 after entering restricted free agency.
The 28-year-old is coming off the best season of his career, averaging 23.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 5.5 assists in 51 games.
