Maccabi Tel Aviv has officially completed the signing of Israeli national team guard Yam Madar, confirming the arrival of one of the country’s top playmakers on a three-year contract.

The 25-year-old point guard joins Maccabi after leaving city rivals Hapoel Tel Aviv, becoming another major addition to the club’s roster ahead of the 2026-27 season.

Per the press release: This is it, it’s really happening and in a big way. Maccabi Rapyd Tel Aviv has signed Yam Medar for the next three years. The great guard of the Israeli national team (1.90 m, 25), who grew up as a fan of the yellow-blue, will join the upgraded squad of coach Oded Kattash.

The signing follows Maccabi’s efforts to strengthen its squad after re-signing John DiBartolomeo, Jaylen Hoard, Jimmy Clark, Will Rayman, and O’Shea Brissett, while also bringing back Bonzi Colson. Madar arrives with extensive experience, including 89 EuroLeague appearances, and has previously worked with head coach Oded Kattash on the Israeli national team.

“I am happy and excited to start a new chapter and join Maccabi Tel Aviv,” Yam Medar told the official website. “I am already looking forward to meeting the fans, teammates, and staff, and I promise to give everything I have in every practice and every game to help the club meet its goals. I want to thank the team, management, and owners for their trust and look forward to returning it on the field. Come on, Maccabi!”

Kattash welcomed the move, saying Madar is expected to play a major role for the club.

“I am very happy that Yam is joining us,” said coach Oded Katash. “His qualities are clear to everyone, especially after the last playoffs, and we are designating him a significant role in the team. He comes to Maccabi at the right age and with a big upside. I want to thank the owners for the great efforts they made in signing him.”

The coach also highlighted the importance of the connection between the player and the club’s supporters.

“The secret to Maccabi’s magic stems from the connection between the fans and the team and the players. I am sure that in Yam’s case, this is the beginning of a wonderful relationship with a natural connection, which will only deepen.”

Club chairman Shimon Mizrahi also welcomed the Israeli guard to the organization.

“Yam, you are welcomed with waves of love and joy as you become another Israeli player who joins the anchor of our team, Maccabi Tel Aviv. We wish you great success.”

Madar began his professional career with Hapoel Tel Aviv before playing for Partizan Belgrade, where he won the EuroLeague Rising Star award in 2022-23. He later spent time with Fenerbahce and Bayern Munich before returning to Hapoel in 2024, helping the club win the EuroCup and secure promotion to the EuroLeague.

One of his standout performances came in the regular-season derby against Maccabi, when he scored 41 points while making nine of his 10 three-point attempts. He also averaged 19.2 points, 8.0 assists, and 1.5 steals during the Israeli League Finals before making the switch across the city to Maccabi.
