The Phoenix Suns are set to add Nebraska guard Sam Hoiberg, who intends to sign with the franchise following the 2026 NBA Draft cycle, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer on June 24. Hoiberg arrives after a four-year collegiate career highlighted by a senior-season breakout and Big Ten All-Defensive recognition.

Hoiberg played 35 games as a senior at Nebraska in 2025-26, starting all 35 contests and averaging 32.3 minutes per game. He posted 9.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 2.0 steals while shooting 54.1% from the field and 38.1% from three-point range, marking his most efficient scoring season on record.

Across his Nebraska career, Hoiberg appeared in 125 games with 51 starts, averaging 5.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. His overall shooting line stood at 48.5% from the field and 36.0% from three, with steady growth in usage and playmaking responsibilities each season.

Defensively, Hoiberg’s profile was anchored by ball pressure and activity in passing lanes, reflected in his senior-year 2.0 steals per game and career-best 4.5 assists as he handled expanded lead guard duties. His recognition as a Big Ten All-Defensive selection coincided with Nebraska’s heavier reliance on perimeter containment schemes during conference play.

The Suns finished the 2025-26 regular season 45-37 and secured the seventh seed in the Western Conference before reaching the postseason field.

The signing comes shortly after the 2026 NBA Draft, where Phoenix acquire No. 30 pick Koa Peat and also selected Tyler Nickel at No. 47 in the second round before the reported addition of Hoiberg as an undrafted guard option.
