San Antonio Spurs guard De’Aaron Fox struggled in Game 1’s loss and tried to redeem himself in Game 2 with 20 points, but fell short, trailing 0-2 against the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals.
Despite the slump, Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama lifted the team’s spirits as he applauded Fox’s contributions throughout the season.
“It’s been great. I think it’s been saving us a lot of trouble over the course of the season. Sometimes he makes things very easy for us, and he’s the experienced guy that we’ve always been able to turn to when we need it, especially, I think it’s easy to forget that our guards are really young, and how precious he’s been for them.”
Fox’s role with San Antonio would be the key factor in their comeback in this series because his shot creation can open up space for Dylan Harper and Stephon Castle.
However, he has been inconsistent for this postseason after dropping 3-of-13 in Game 1.
Although the Spurs almost won in Game 2 with their comeback and missed an important possession, the Knicks are dominating the rally in the last minutes.
Fox has to step up for them to be alive in the series, since the offense he provides is one of their X-factors for getting spaces.
The former Kings averaged 18.6 points per game in the regular season with 48.6% from the field, while dropping to 16.1 points, shooting 43.6% in the playoffs.
