After the Oklahoma City Thunder had swept the Los Angeles Lakers in their Western semifinals, it was now time again to await the decision of 41-year-old LeBron James on his next step.
While the Thunder advanced to the next round and will continue to defend the title, all eyes in the NBA are on James, as one of the main faces of the league is about to end.
In speaking of the post-game interview, James was not yet ready to reveal anything about his plans as he heads to free agency.
“I don’t know [what’s next]. Obviously it’s still fresh from losing,” he said. “I don’t know. I don’t know what the future holds for me obviously as it stands right now, tonight.”
Speculations
James might have a higher chance of retiring this season with the Lakers compared to last year, but there are some speculations that he could end his career back home in Cleveland.
If the Lakers’ superstar decided to retire in a while, it still would have been an outstanding career with four championships, four MVPs, and many more to his resume.
However, if he decided to be home in Cleveland for his final season, it would be interesting to watch along with Donovan Mitchell and James Harden, who could potentially help him to earn his fifth championship.
The 41-year-old will become an unrestricted free agent this offseason as he has the freedom to do whatever he wants.
James could actually sign a new deal with the Lakers, the Cavaliers, or with other teams. He averaged 20.9 points, 7.2 assists, and 6.1 rebounds per game this season in his 23rd year in the league.
